Description: Join us to hear Dr. Sattler discuss findings from a systematic review and meta-analysis examining the effectiveness and feasibility of telehealth-based dietary interventions for individuals with cardiovascular disease. The research shows that remotely delivered dietary strategies can significantly improve systolic blood pressure and LDL cholesterol compared with usual care, while demonstrating similar feasibility in real-world settings. Insights from this work highlight the potential of telehealth nutrition interventions to enhance clinical risk factor management in chronic disease populations.

 Heavy metals are ubiquitous in the environment, and concerns about exposure to substances such as arsenic, lead, and mercury are increasingly raised by patients and healthcare providers. While acute heavy metal poisoning is rare, chronic or elevated exposure may contribute to significant health concerns. Join experts from clinical toxicology, laboratory science, and public health for a multidisciplinary discussion of heavy metal exposure in Arizona. Participants will explore clinical presentations and risk factors, appropriate laboratory testing and interpretation, common exposure sources, and strategies to help reduce risk. The session will also highlight resources available to healthcare providers and communities concerned about heavy metal exposure.

Outcome Objectives

• Recognize clinical presentations and exposure histories that may warrant evaluation for heavy metal exposure.

• Select appropriate laboratory tests and interpret results for suspected heavy metal exposure, including consideration of appropriate specimen matrices.

• Describe common sources, pathways, and potential health effects associated with acute and chronic heavy metal exposure.

• Identify evidence-based exposure reduction strategies and public health resources available to support patients and communities at risk.
