Avera Health, an integrated delivery system based in Sioux Falls, S.D., ventured into telemedicine 25 years ago to increase access and improve quality. Over the years, the health system quickly saw the benefits telemedicine could provide to help revolutionize health care delivery. Avera eCARE, virtual health system in Sioux Falls, S.D., was created to solely focus on supporting bedside providers remotely with two way audio and video technology. To date, Avera eCARE serves 14-states in 340+ communities, which include hospitals, clinics, senior care communities, I.H.S facilities, schools and correctional facilities, and employees over 235 physicians, nurses, pharmacists, support staff and others dedicated to telemedicine. Avera eCARE has developed a diverse telemedicine network by providing the following services: specialty consults, emergency, ICU, pharmacy, senior care, correctional health, school health, and behavioral health.
